Privacy Notice

v1.0 · May 2026 · GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679)

Who we are

Data controller: Andrew Iles, operating Help My Vote (helpmyvote.org). Contact: admin@helpmyvote.org.

This notice applies to all visitors to helpmyvote.org.

Data we collect

We collect as little data as possible. This site has no user accounts, no registration, and no forms that collect personal information (other than optional contact by email).

The data we collect breaks into three categories: quiz data, server logs, and technical cookies.

Quiz data

Your quiz answers never leave your device. All quiz responses and results are stored in your browser's localStorage under the key hmv_quiz_session and hmv_quiz_results. This data is never transmitted to our servers.

If you clear your browser data, your quiz results will be permanently deleted from your device.

Language preference is stored in localStorage under hmv_lang. This is also never transmitted to our servers.

Server logs

Like all websites, our infrastructure generates standard server access logs. These include: IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp, and referrer. These are used for security and reliability purposes.

Legal basis: Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — maintaining the security and reliability of the service.

Retention: Server logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days, then automatically deleted.

We do not use server logs to track individual users or for marketing purposes.

Cookies

Help My Vote does not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party analytics service.

The only browser storage we use is localStorage (see Quiz data above). This is a technical storage mechanism, not a cookie, and is not transmitted to any server.

Google Fonts are loaded from Google's servers, which may result in your IP address being shared with Google as part of that request. If this concerns you, you can use a browser extension to block third-party font requests.

Your rights under GDPR

As an EU resident, you have the following rights regarding any personal data we hold:

  • Right of access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your data.
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to restriction: Request we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.

Given that the only personal data we hold is server logs (deleted after 30 days and not linked to identifiable individuals in most cases), exercising these rights is straightforward. Contact us at admin@helpmyvote.org.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) of Malta.

Contact

For any privacy-related questions or to exercise your rights, contact: admin@helpmyvote.org.
